B B Apple today previewed iOS 18, a significant release featuring extensive customization options, a complete redesign of the Photos app, innovative ways to manage emails in Mail, and satellite messaging capabilities, among other features. Users will have the ability to arrange apps and widgets freely on the Home Screen, customize buttons on the Lock Screen, and access additional controls in the Control Center with ease.
BB The Photos app now automatically organizes photo libraries into a new single view, with helpful collections to keep favorites easily accessible. Mail uses on-device intelligence to sort emails into categories, simplifying inbox management, and introduces new text effects in iMessage. Leveraging the same advanced technology as existing iPhone satellite capabilities, the Messages app now allows communication over satellite when cellular or Wi-Fi connections are unavailable.
BB iOS 18 also introduces Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This system combines the power of generative models with personal context, providing incredibly useful and relevant intelligence. Built with privacy as a priority, Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It utilizes the power of Apple silicon to understand and generate language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to simplify and accelerate daily tasks.
B B “We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18. It is a major release with incredible features, including new levels of customization and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages. There are so many benefits for everyone,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core. We can’t wait for users to experience it.”
